Chelation Therapy - Detoxify Your Body of Poisonous Metals

So what is chelation therapy? Chelation therapy includes oral chelation therapy and intravenous EDTA chelation therapy. It is a process through which a chelating agent grabs certain substances and removes them from the body. By introducing EDTA, chelation therapy can remove heavy metals and calcium.
It has traditionally been used for treating heavy metal poisoning, and is now considered effective in treating arteriosclerosis.

How Does Chelation Therapy Work?

So how does chelation therapy work? Chelation therapy works by using chelating agents. The most common chelating agent is an amino acid complex called EDTA. EDTA stands for ethylene-diamine-tetra-acetic acid. When EDTA comes in contact with metals and other substances it gets hold of them and creates a compound which is excreted from the body.

Oral chelation therapy is also a popular way of administering chelation therapy. It is an easier method that does not require agents. Natural chelating agents are taken orally. There are many products that contain a number of natural chelating agents in the one formula. Like intravenous chelation therapy, the agents find substances, bind them into a substance and excrete them from the body.

Some Common Chelating Agents

For intravenous chelation therapy, the chelating agent used is EDTA. EDTA may also be used in oral chelation therapy. Oral chelation therapies sometimes use a number of different chelating agents. Usually, they are natural chelating agents. Some of the chelating agents that may be taken orally include:
  • Vitamin C;
  • Methionine;
  • Cysteine;
  • Malic acid;
  • Dimercapto succinic acid (DMSA);
  • Lithium.

When is Chelation Therapy Needed?

Chelation therapy is traditionally used in the treatment of heavy metal poisoning. It is now realized that the chelating agents can help remove other substances which may contribute to other health problems. Malic acid chelating agent and other EDTA agents are often used in the treatment of atherosclerosis and other degenerative diseases of the circulatory system. Chelation therapy can help prevent or minimize angina pain or muscle pain.

How is Chelation Therapy Administered?

There are two ways of administering chelation therapy; by oral chelation therapy or by intravenous chelation therapy. In intravenous chelation therapy, an EDTA infusion is administered to the patient through a needle which is inserted into the vein. The needle is attached to a container of liquid, which contains EDTA. It may also contain other minerals or supplements if they are necessary.

Benefits of Chelation Therapy

Chelation therapy provides many benefits for people seeking to treat different health problems. Here are some of those benefits:
  • It reduces free radicals in the blood;
  • It blocks calcium absorption;
  • It can help repair damaged muscles;
  • It can improve the cell energy production;
  • It can reduce blood clots from occurring;
  • It can help normalize cholesterol and HDL levels;
  • It removes calcium from the plaque;
  • It may reduce fatigue;
  • The cost of chelation therapy is not very high, compared to that of surgical procedures. Intravenous chelation therapy may cost around $3000. Oral chelation therapy is much cheaper.
