Ayurvedic medicine
Ayurvedic medicine or Ayurveda is a popular alternative medicine. It is widely used in Indian subcontinents. Ayurveda means science of life. It is concerned with physical, mental, social and spiritual well being of the patients. It is also one of the rarest traditional medicines that involve surgery.
Ayurveda uses various materials of vegetables, animals and minerals for their medicinal value. These materials have been used for centuries by its practitioners to cure illness or to gain good health. All the Ayurvedic medicines are made out of herbs or mixtures of herbs either alone or in combination with minerals, metals and other ingredients of animal origin.
All the materials are purified by using several processes before using them for medicinal purposes. But there is scientific evidence that misusing Ayurvedic medicines, in particular, those involving herbs, metals and minerals can pose serious risks. They may lead to toxicity. So these herbs should not be used without the consent of Ayurvedic medical practitioners.
