Osteopathic manipulative therapy
Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine or OMM is a treatment used to improve the impaired or altered function of the musculo -skeleton system or somantic dysfunction. This therapy has got its roots in ancient Greek where manual manipulations have been part of health care. It originated in United States. This therapy was first practiced by Andrew Taylor Still who was founder of modern osteopathic medicine.
In US, this therapy is used by the doctors of osteopathic medicine along with the surgery and other medications to the patients. Outside the US, practitioners of osteopathy have generally limited scope as for as manual manipulation is concerned. Different techniques are used in the treatment of musculoskeletal system.
Usually these techniques are applied to the joints, their surrounding soft tissues, muscles and fasciae. Some of the techniques include Balanced Ligamentous Tension (BLT), counterstrain , cranial osteopathy , high velocity low amplitude thrust, joint mobilization, lymphatic pump , muscle energy technique and much more.
