Music therapy
Music therapy involves therapeutic use of music for healing several disorders. There is evidence for the power of music in curing many ailments. But music therapy should be performed only by individuals those who have completed music therapy programs.
One can achieve therapeutic goals like motor skills, social/interpersonal development, cognitive development, self - awareness, spiritual enhancement and many more. The need of music therapists is felt increasingly in every area of helping professions. They are especially in demand among individuals with special needs. Their services are also increasingly used by stroke victims for physical rehabilitation.
Music therapy is reckoned as one of the most expressive therapies. It has been used in United States since 1944 and there is also mention about it in western history written by some Greek philosophers. The first degree program on this therapy was founded at Michigan State University. It is said that music therapy has been used in the form of live music in several hospitals after both the world wars.
