Laser Hair Removal Treatment - No More Rashes, No More Pain

Hair removal has been a common theme in infomercials. Creams and machines of all sorts have always claimed superiority. What about a laser hair removal treatment? Do they offer a better option? Let's check what laser treatment for hair removal is about.

What Is Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Also known as laser epilation, laser treatment hair removal has been around us since the late 1980's, but it wasn't until the decade of the nineties that it became commercially available. What it does is remove the hair from the skin for a determined period of time. Or maybe forever.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Since a laser is a form of light, it is absorbed better by darker areas. An excellent example is seen in clothes. If you wear white clothes in a sunny day you will feel fresh. But, if you wear dark clothes under the sun, you will start to sweat in no time.

Hence, when a laser is pointed at the skin, it will be the darker spots who will suffer its damage. Since the pigment in the hair is dark, it will attract to the hair the full blow of the laser.

And what about the surrounding areas? Nothing will happen to them. The intensity of the laser is low enough to leave the rest of the tissue undamaged. The hair will be the only one to be affected.

And Why Is It Better Than Other Methods?

The main advantage of laser hair removal over creams and machines, is that it can remove hair for extended periods of time, or maybe forever. That way, you will not waste your time going through the continuous maintenance of your body.

Can Anyone Use It?

No. People whose hair pigment isn't dark (like gray, red or blond), may not notice true results after being treated with laser. This is because the pigment will not absorb all of the heat from the laser and will only suffer minimal damage.

Additionally, dark skin persons and people who maintain a strong tan won't be able to go through this procedure. There is the risk that their skin will absorb the laser almost with the same intensity as their hair and suffer skin burning.

So, talk to your doctor about the pre and post procedures of the laser treatment, how many sessions will you need and how much time will it take to start seeing the results.
