Low Level Laser Treatment
When considering low level laser treatment the use of laser in physical therapy is mainly done in one of two ways:
The laser beam is in direct contact with the skin.
The beam is aimed at a specific area but is held 5 cm away from the skin. This is called distance contact.
When is laser Therapy Useful?
Except for treatments to help people stop smoking there are of course many other situations in which laser therapy can offer relief or this type of therapy can promote healing of the body. Some examples of medical problems that low level laser therapy can help with are:

Who Should Not Use Laser Therapies?
Certain people would not benefit from laser treatment and for some people laser treatment would even possibly worsen their medical
condition. Examples of people who should not undergo laser in physical therapy at all are:
People suffering from epilepsy and (recurring) fits.
People with heart problems.
People using pacemakers.
What are the Benefits of Mild Type Laser Treatment?
Mild laser therapy can help people feel better in general as (some of) the symptoms of their condition are minimised or resolved completely. The best known and most experienced benefits of laser therapy are:
Pain relief (noticeable soon after the treatment).
Wounds and scars after for example surgeries heal a lot faster with laser treatment.
Precautions When Using Lasers
As laser beams are very powerful and they can potentially damage skin and flesh when not applied in moderation, protection must be worn when laser treatment is applied. A therapist will use protection and often a patient will be asked to ear protection on certain areas of the body or over the eyes during the procedure. The most common protection that is worn during treatment in goggles to protect the eyes from damaging rays when looking directly at a laser beam.
When starting a course of low level laser therapy it is good to wonder 'how does a laser work'. Whether you suffer from medical problems or you would like to quit smoking, laser therapy might be the right treatment for you.
