Black Cohosh Found to Be Ineffective

When studies announced that hormone replacement therapy was dangerous many women started turning to Black Cohosh for their menopausal symptoms. However, now a new study is showing that Black Cohosh may not work for treating menopausal symptoms.

This news is shocking to some who have read more than a dozen different studies which showed that the estrogens which come from the plants roots help to treat menopausal symptoms. A German study involving six hundred women had over eighty percent who found physical and psychological relief of their menopausal symptoms by taking Black Cohosh.

However, the recent studies have shown that Black Cohosh is nearly ineffective when it comes to treating hot flashes and night sweats in menopausal women. The new study shows that after a year 351 in the study had the same amount of relief whether they were taking Black Cohosh or a placebo. In addition, women given hormone replacement therapy had seen a vast improvement in their condition over the other women.

This new study was conducted by Group Health out of Seattle and the research was recently published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. This recent study may mean that menopausal women don't have a true solution to their symptoms. Therefore, many women may have to resort to making behavioral changes such as wearing more clothing, sleeping in cooler locations or avoiding anything that may trigger their symptoms.
