As per the latest Developments the government of Australia has come forward to allocate a whooping sum of 5 million dollars to be used for alternative medicines. One of the main reasons for this is the large consumption of alternative medicines among the public which is estimated to be around one billion dollars. This effort by the government is backed by the fact that there are no stringent regulations to govern the manufacturing of these medicines as on date. Similarly there is no onus on the producers of the medicines to prove that their medicines are absolutely risk free. The money allotted by the government is indented to test the authenticity of herbal and other categories of alternative medicines and as well as to find out if they are effective.

In this connection the minister of health Tony abbot has also confirmed that the National health and medical research council will take responsibility and as well as spend the money for the intended purposes.

Statistics reveal that around half of the entire population in Australia makes use of non prescribed complimentary medicine. As per the present rules these medicines must have successfully been approved by Therapeutic Goods Administration to become suitable for consumption. If in case a particular medicine is categorized as risky by the board then the manufacturer of the said medicine must substantiate its efficiency with respect to curing the disease and as well as prove them scientifically. The other categories of medicines also have to pass the screening for quality and safety as long as the risks are low.

The government amended certain statues pertaining to complimentary and alternative medicines and this was followed by a huge lurch in the market which witnessed the downfall of so many alternative medicines and suppliers. This automatically led to immediate response from the government and they promised to ensure that the interest of the industry is not affected by any means. Similarly several tangible measures were taken by them in this connection. It should be recalled that an old man hailing from Brisbane passed away by taking an alternative medicine without any guidance. This has made the government to respond sharply in the interest of the people.
