Low Back Pain Treated with Acupuncture

Today one of the largest health complaints is low back pain. An effective method of treatment can be acupuncture. Several factors are included in determining how many acupuncture treatments are required. These factors include the duration of the problem, the severity and the age of the patient.

According to Chinese medicine, pain results when the flow of energy or blood is blocked. The pain disappears once acupuncture helps restore the normal flow of energy and blood. To achieve this goal a certified acupuncturist uses a variety of tools and methods.

For those with low back pain the specific blocked acupuncture channel will first be identified by the acupuncturist. When acupuncture is applied they do it both at the site of pain and sites along the same channel as the pain. For twenty to thirty minutes the needles are left in the body before being removed and disposed.

After treatment any degree of results can be felt by the patient although relief is usually immediate. The problem is usually completely resolved or at least diminished to the point that acupuncture isn't needed anymore after several completed visits, which in an uncomplicated low back pain issue is usually four to six visits. It may take longer to resolve chronic problems which have been occurring for several months or years.

However, as with all alternative medicine treatments you should do your research first. When selecting an acupuncturist you should make sure they can handle your condition and that they are licensed and experienced. Then you are sure to get benefits for your low back pain by taking advantage of the alternative medicine, acupuncture.
